I’ve always been interested in the history of things, where things came from, which ideas inspired them, the beginnings of a genre. I love to compare these things, but inside the mess of my own head they can get a bit confused. So I am just going to write my own feelings about each individual thing, and then maybe compare and bring them all together later.
At the moment I am listening to the audio book Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. In this book a character called Art3mis (Artemis) has a blog. Here she writes a comparison essay about John Hughes and his “boyish” trilogy (including The Breakfast Club) and the “girlish” trilogy (including Sixteen Candles). I looked up John Hughes and he has actually directed many of my favourite films, including National Lampoons. So I decided I would look into this myself, try and watch as many of his (and other) films and write about them. (Forgive me if the book reference isn’t completely accurate, it’s a while since I heard that bit of the book.)
This is a labor of love, purely for my own enjoyment. If you guys like reading it too then that’s a bonus!
I have things I’ve already written, dating back to before Christmas. I was waiting to write them up properly and maybe compare them to others in their genre, but I was waiting forever, ideas didn’t surface or I just didn’t have the time. So I will slowly post the things I have already written and also start writing new things. As I said I will post them all individually, then I have a record of how I felt at those moments.
Let’s see how this goes!
